A drawing of legionaries marching

I did this picture to be used on a t-shirt of our reenactment troop. Only in black and white.

Marching

For this picture, I remembered how I and my fellow reenactors friends marched with the full equipment. It’s hard to walk with 30 or 40 kilos on your back, believe me!

Contubernium

You can see in my drawing half of a contubernium. I couldn’t represent the full contubernium, the t-shirt would be overcrowded (and ugly).

So, left to right:

  • a mule, used to carry heavy load of gear, like the tent or pila muralis.
  • the servant, in charge of the mule and to help the soldiers in everything. We don’t know for sure if he was a slave or not.
  • 4 legionaries, fully equipped.

The Picture

I did this drawing for a t-shirt for our reenactment group, LEG VIII AUG.
